Kavanaugh hearing confirms swamp

DEAR EDITOR:

I watched the dog-and-pony show put on by our senators to establish the credibility of the accusations made against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

It didn’t take long to realize that this hearing was a complete sham. Nothing was going to be determined from this hearing beyond what we already knew (he said, she said).

Not one senator in the room cared about the truth or what really happened or didn’t happen. The only thing they cared about was his / her political party’s agenda.

The Democratic senators asked no relevant questions — they only praised the accuser’s courage and told her how brave and honest she is. The Republican senators only wanted to know how much the accuser has forgotten or possibly lied about. Not one senator’s mind will be changed by the outcome of this hearing as they were already made up. The Democrats wanted to delay a vote on Kavanaugh until after the midterm elections and the Republicans wanted to have a vote before. I found it particularly interesting that everyone’s righteous indignation was right down party lines.

Isn’t it also interesting that all the Republican senators find Kavanaugh to be extremely well qualified and personally above reproach, while all the Democratic senators find him to be extremely unqualified and a sexual predator?

The only thing that is crystal clear after this hearing is that Washington is a swamp, regardless of what side of the aisle you are on.
