Socialist countries turn to dictatorships

DEAR EDITOR:

I read these letters every week, and some really stand out.

In a Sept. 2 letter written by one of the more prolific Tribune Chronicle contributors, the writer became completely unhinged about health care and the need for a government-run rationed health care system also known as single-payer.

It appears this person should be writing campaign speeches for Bernie Sanders or his adopted daughter, Ocasio Cortez. Seriously, does anyone really believe that we have the worst health care system in the world? Surely not the Saudi Kings and Princes, Canadians that go to the Cleveland Clinic or illegal aliens that assail our borders; and to assert that Cuba has better health care than the U.S. is beyond the pale.

At the heart of this rant was democratic socialism. Every country that embraces socialism soon becomes a tyrannical dictatorship. Don’t even go there with Europe, it operates on socialist principles dictated by unelected bureaucrats in Brussels. I hope readers aren’t taken in by these supposed facts taken out of Michael Moore’s movies. They aren’t facts, they’re unfounded opinions. If you want facts about the American health care system, read “An American Sickness” with documented facts. Our system has massive flaws because of power-hungry politicians on both sides that sell us out to the insurance, health care, drug companies and the American Medical Association, or AMA, for campaign contributions. Most doctors don’t even belong to the AMA. So what good would a government care system be? Just look at the Veterans Administration scandals for that answer.

As long as politicians are on the take by serving the health care lobbyists rather than us, we will never get the health care we pay for and deserve, regardless of the system.
