Make Americans great again

DEAR EDITOR:

During his campaign and after his election, President Trump has built a platform on making America great again.

Rather than making America great, we should focus on making the American people great again. Our society has suffered from mistrust, declining family values, prejudice, a decay in our country’s core values, disrespect by professional athletes not to stand for the National Anthem, and the list goes on.

Before we can go before our European partners with talk of tariffs or demanding that they pay more to NATO, it might be wise to work on bringing the American people together — to heal the problems of the country and to make the people proud to be Americans. This will be difficult, at best, and will require a lot of understanding and trust.

Martin Luther King may have said it best when he stated, “We Shall Overcome.”

To achieve this goal much work needs to be done on both sides of the issue.
