Speed cameras are just for the cash

Howland, Gird thy loins, and thy pocketbook!

Howland Trustee Rick Clark and police Chief Nick Roberts are trumpeting their altruism to make Howland a safer place by implementing mobile speed cameras — oh, and they’re going to make a pile of money doing it.

Speed cameras are the drug of choice for cash-hungry local governments and police departments.

Sure, people will slow down eventually, two or three weeks later when they get the ticket in the mail. If they just patrolled the area on a regular basis, they would be slowing people down now, not two weeks later.

This is all a sham. If you doubt that, just take the financial incentive away. Donate it to the Salvation Army and see if the trustees and police are still as altruistic about your safety.
