Contributors to high unemployment

DEAR EDITOR:

I saw a report in the news recently that Trumbull County has the “highest” unemployment rate in the state at 7.9 percent in September.

I have my opinion as to why.

Could it be that this county relies on manufacturing? Could it be soaring health care benefit cost? Could it be that they choose to “dump” aging babyboomers to cut their cost and call it “modernizing corporate culture”?

But after dumping the babyboomers, they blame the opioid crisis on their inability to find qualified / skilled workers.

My opinion is if the companies allowed the babyboomers to age out of the system, rather than dumping them, the companies would have had a time buffer to find qualified / skilled workers.

But now karma is biting them. And I couldn’t be happier.
