Update on the city of Warren’s finances
This is to provide a brief 2016 year-end finance department update for the City of Warren.
As you may already be aware, the finance department has seen four different auditors, including myself, in a little over six months. Also two of the department’s five employees retired in that time frame. I am able to inform you that despite this unique situation, our transition has been successful and has provided us new opportunities to cross-train employees and expand our public outreach. We also have joined the state’s online transparency website, ohiocheckbook.com.
During the same time, the city also was facing an imminent shortfall in the general fund with insufficient savings to cover the anticipated deficit.
I again am happy to inform you that through hard work and cooperation with the administration and city council, the city got through 2016 without layoffs or massive cuts but also ended the year with a small carryover from our general fund savings. This allows us to start 2017 in a stronger financial position than originally anticipated.
It is an honor to serve as your auditor and to represent a dedicated, hardworking and professional department in our great city.
If there is ever a question or concern in regards to the city’s finances, contact the finance department at 330-841-2586.
