Make our voices heard on what’s important
DEAR EDITOR:
To Ohio elected officials. I am a Vietnam War era vet who did not vote for President Trump.
I believe I am fiscally conservative with liberal tendencies. In other words, I am a moderate.
1) I believe your thinking on women’s rights regarding health care, abortion and career opportunities is very white male-centered and I believe it is not making America great again.
2) I believe that supporting President Trump’s views on an immigration ban based upon religion is unconstitutional and a disgrace to American ideals and values.
3) I believe your supporting President Trump’s alternative truths on the election count, size and mandate are outrageous. If you cannot tell the truth with regard to obvious lies, how do you expect the voters in Ohio to respect and believe you?
4) Your support of President Trump’s picks of Rick Perry and Betsy DeVos are a joke. These are two of the most unqualified and unprepared candidates I have seen in my 70 years.
5) “We are going to build a wall and Mexico is going to pay for it.” This was a strong selling point used by our president leading up to the election. I did not believe it then, and I do not believe it now. The American public will pay for this folly. Isn’t there going to be a tax or a tariff on Mexican goods coming into this country. Who is going to pay for these goods? Let me give you a hint. Americans!
6) Defrauding Planned Parenthood is a moral disgrace and shows your lack of understanding of what Planned Parenthood does and why it is so important for many poorer women. How can you attempt to close an organization that has been an institution in our communities for decades and not know what purpose or good it performs?
Growing up, I was taught to consider the other side. That means to think for myself and ask enough questions to uncover the facts. You need to do the same.
I was told by a congressman that since I don’t live in his district, I have no right to voice my opinion, thanks to gerrymandering.
We need to follow the lead of the Women’s March and tell our elected officials what is important and that we want to be heard or they will not be our elected officials for very long.
