Consider removal of steel mill bridges

DEAR EDITOR:

For the communities involved in forming a JEDD of the WCI / RG Steel property, it’s a good idea to recycle brownfields and potentially develop them.

The company that purchased the steel mill tried to sell it, but couldn’t.

They had to recoup the investment, so they are scrapping it.

The powers that be, including Trumbull County, should be inquiring if the steel bridge over the Mahoning River and the concrete bridge over Main Street should be removed.

Why?

It’s more cost effective now than five years from now to remove them before they start falling down or collapse. I’ve been on the steel bridge when trucks use it. It shakes; it’s not that stable. Risk management doesn’t work! Be pro-active, not reactive.
