Sen. Cafaro sets record straight

DEAR EDITOR:

In response to a recent editorial in the Tribune Chronicle, I want to set the record straight about my voting record in the Ohio Senate. The most recent scorecard from the Ohio Chamber of Commerce shows I voted for its legislation 80 percent of the time.

Only once did I oppose a bill the Chamber supported in the current General Assembly. That legislation was Senate Bill 310, which put Ohio’s renewable energy standards on hold for two years. I voted against SB 310 because I believe it will lead to higher electric bills and cost Ohioans jobs.

I’m not the only one who felt that way. The Ohio Manufacturers Association also opposed SB 310 and signed a letter to Gov. Kasich that said the legislation ”will be harmful to Ohioans’ electric bills and to Ohio’s burgeoning renewable energy and energy efficiency industries.”

Encouraging job growth in the Mahoning Valley has been and continues to be my highest priority. That’s why I have the highest lifetime rating from the Chamber of Commerce of any Democrat serving in the Ohio Senate.

Sen. Capri S. Cafaro
