Thanks to those who mark holiday
While I join my fellow Americans in celebrating the traditional beginning of summer, and even pause to think of the veterans we memorialize every year at the end of May, I wish to go a step further and thank those who actively celebrate Memorial Day.
To the cemetery crews who mow and trim even when the weather makes it difficult … thank you.
To the vets and volunteers who mark thousands of graves with flags (especially the folks from the Mineral Ridge Historical Society and the person who placed flags at Welsh Hill) … thank you.
And to the VA honor guard who every year visit all the local cemeteries (even the little, forgotten ones like Welsh Hill, Welsh Baptist and Ohltown) … thank you.
