Honor God, then we can honor vets

On June 1 and May 25, Letters to the Editor were printed in the newspaper to which I wish to respond.

First, “Have our war dead died in vain?” by Jim Koehler listed 11 freedoms that he feels are being abused in America today. We all need to look at the list and think about ourselves. Are we truly honoring our veterans?

These veterans gave their lives so we can have our freedoms. Are these freedoms that not only our Constitution spells out for us, but freedoms that God gave us too? How many are we abusing today? Very well stated, Jim.

Secondly, “America doesn’t get the truth” by Larry Shively was also well stated, and I too hope America gets it soon. Love the Lord with all my heart, all my soul, and all my strength is great advice for all Americans to consider. For obedience is love.

The third letter, “Don’t force your beliefs on others” by Cheryl Piper has some positive points. However, there were a couple of points I have trouble with. Ms. Piper stated, “The Bible is not a myth, and I know who the one creator is.”

This is great! However, she turned around and stated, “Read the Bible and quote it often, just do it privately.” This does not follow Jesus’ command of Matthew 28:19-20 – “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all the commands I have given you.”

The apostle Paul says that our silence means we approve of the sin. How do we just do it privately?

Secondly, Ms. Piper stated that “Gay people are born gay.” I know this is a thought being used in today’s society, but I have never read this. The God I understand does not make mistakes. Gen. 2:24 says, “A man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife and the two are united into one.”

This statement is about a man and a woman. Reading the first chapter of Genesis and we see that God made it all and He saw that it was all good. Does God make mistakes? Born gay? A question only God can answer for us?

What do you worship? What is your future hope for yourself and America? Have you become a slave to sin by whatever you have chosen to obey? Are we giving away our freedoms to follow Satan? Can America quit following the behavior and customs of today’s world? Will Americans choose God and let Him transform them into new persons by changing the way they think? If they would return to honoring God, then we would be truly honoring our veterans again.
