Warfield a source of pride for Warren
I enjoyed reading the article on Paul Warfield. Throughout his career he only brought pride to Warren. He remembered his roots and continues to speak so highly of Gene Slaughter.
I have made many trips to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. When I see the bust of Paul, I can’t help but think what great company he is in. Everyone is happy he chose football. He is now where he belongs: in the OHSAA’s ”Circle of Champions.”
My brother, Lee Winnagle, also graduated in 1960 and was the track manager that school year. Lee was living in Hawaii when Paul was in Cleveland. My brother wrote to Paul, and Paul wrote him back. The fact that he wrote back speaks to his character and how he never forgot his old friends and acquaintances.
It means so much to me now because my brother died in 2006, and I have his track letter. I will always remember the connection between Paul and my brother. Paul has always lived his life with honor, pride and class.
What great memories you have given us, Paul. You continue to be a role model.
