Orchids and Onions

• ORCHID: To political newcomer Liberty Trustee Arnie Clebone for being aggressive in already broaching the subject of coordinating a forum among neighboring communities to explore collaboration and sharing services.

• ONION: To Jessica DeMarco of Newton Township who this week pleaded guilty to a charge stemming from the theft of more than $50,000 from her deaf parents. The official charge is theft from a person in a protected class. She still faces sentencing. How low can you go?

• ORCHID: To the Warren Rotary Club, which marks its centennial anniversary this year. That equates to 100 years of service and good deeds for our community.

• ORCHID: To all area firefighters who selflessly give up their comfort and warmth to battle fires as well as treacherous icy conditions that arise from emergency calls in this ongoing harsh weather.

• ORCHID: Also, to all the local residents who take the time and effort to ensure the fire hydrants around their homes are shoveled out and easily accessible. This crucial effort helps ensure first responders can act quickly in an emergency.
