Orchids and Onions

ORCHID: To the YWCA of Warren for offering youth summer camps that will, among other things, exhibit different career opportunities. What a great way to drive high aspirations and inspire success.

ONION: To Niles Service Director Edward Stredney and other city officials who failed to take ownership of a serious water leak and flooding problem plaguing a Howland street for months. One resident believes the city doesn’t care because the problem is in Howland. That’s not acceptable.

ORCHID: To Chestnut Ridge Church of God in Hubbard for its distribution of free new tennis shoes to needy children in southeast Trumbull County and western Pennsylvania. Charitable events like this always make it easier for parents as the kids prepare to head back to school.

ONION: To criminals who take advantage of blind people. A Liberty man who advocates for the visually impaired is working to raise awareness after blind people in Warren and Youngstown fell victim to robberies recently.

ORCHID: To the Warren Family Mission for its “Rides 4 Recovery” program, which offers free rides to detoxification treatments and assistance with treatment costs. The program has helped save lives.
