Orchids and Onions

ORCHID: To local artist Marty Young, who recently donated her painted portrait of 12 local veterans to the Trumbull County Veterans Service Commission.

ORCHID: To marching bands from Warren G. Harding and Lordstown high schools who helped salute area veterans by participating in Friday’s annual Trumbull County Veterans Day parade in Warren.

ORCHID: To area businesses that offer free services to U.S. military veterans in honor of Veterans Day. This week several area restaurants offered free meals and some local dentists provided free dental checkups for veterans.

ONION: To those responsible for mailing incorrect information on polling places to Trumbull County voters. There still is little explanation about how this happened, but it caused much frustration and inconvenience for countless voters and poll workers.

ORCHID: To the Trumbull Board of Elections for trying to be proactive in advising voters about the postcards containing polling place errors. The board of elections did not create the problem, but workers there did their best to handle it swiftly.

ONION: To all the protesters who refuse to accept Donald Trump as president. We must cherish this democracy that provides the sacred right to choose our leaders. Now that we have done that, it’s time to accept the results and move on.
