Strickland is Obama’s kind of Democrat

For some reason, Democrat Party leaders including President Barack Obama are eager to see former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland win a U.S. Senate seat from the state. They are concerned enough that, though two other Democrats are seeking the post, Obama has endorsed Strickland.

That comes after various indications that Democrat, Cincinnati City Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld, was being opposed actively by some party leaders, despite his high energy level and enthusiasm. Another Democratic candidate is Kelli Prather, also of Cincinnati.

Ohio’s primary election, in which Democrat voters are supposed to pick their party’s nominee for the Senate, is scheduled for March 15. Apparently, Obama and other party leaders are worried that unexpected strength and campaign aggressiveness demonstrated by Sittenfeld could derail Strickland.

Why is it so important to them that the ex-governor be on the November ballot?

Quite simply because Strickland is their kind of Democrat – a free-spending, big-government, social-engineering, anti-cheap energy kind of guy. His record as governor makes that clear. His successor, Gov. John Kasich, and legislators had to close an $8 billion budget gap left to them by Strickland.

Perhaps Buckeye State Democrats will nominate Strickland to face incumbent Sen. Rob Portman in November. But when they vote, they should bear in mind that Strickland is Barack Obama’s kind of Democrat.
