Despite light ballot, decisions to be made

Today’s primary has a light slate of contested races and issues, but important decisions will be made nonetheless. Therefore, it’s important for everybody eligible to cast a vote.

With polls in Trumbull County open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., there are very few excuses to justify sitting out this election cycle. Bring proper identification – Ohio driver’s license number, military ID, utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document except the voter registration – and be counted.

Voters in many Trumbull County communities and school districts will be making important decisions about taxes. Liberty, Newton Falls, Newton Township, Weathersfield, Howland schools, Mathews schools and Southington schools all have additional levies on the ballot.

In addition, here are the candidates that the Tribune Chronicle endorsed for the primary:

Trumbull County Commissioner: incumbent Frank Fuda, Niles, over Lisha Pompili-Baumiller, Hubbard.

State Representative, 63rd District: incumbent Sean J. O’Brien, Bazetta, over Marianne James, Niles.

State Representative, 64th District: Michael J. O’Brien, Warren, over Eugene Mach II, Warren, and Ken MacPherson, Warren.

U.S. Representative, 13th District: incumbent Timothy J. Ryan, Howland, over John Stephen Luchansky, Boardman.

U.S. Representative, 14th District: incumbent David P. Joyce, Russell, over Matt Lunch, Bainbridge.
