Pick newcomer for 1st Ward Warren council

The Tribune Chronicle Editorial Board endorses Felicia Davis over Larry Larson and Clyde Wilson for the Democratic nomination for 1st Ward City Council in Warren. Incumbent Fiore D’Appolito is not seeking re-election.

Early voting in the May primary began last week. No Republicans filed.

Citywide, Warren’s leaders need to become more engaged in housing demolitions, neighborhood repopulation and crime reduction. The 1st Ward is no exception.

Davis seems willing and able to support those already involved – the many neighborhood groups, police and city leaders – and capable of bringing more parties – additional concerned citizens and businesses – into the mix.

We also like that Davis, a 2004 African American Achiever’s Association Hall of Fame inductee, is willing to work with those involved in preventing home foreclosures to prevent the need for future housing demolitions and the decline in tax base that they trigger.

Wilson has long been involved in important city and school issues and has run for city and board of education offices in the past. He has, as a concerned resident, many times kept Warren elected officials on their toes. His uncompromising style, though, wouldn’t work well as one of the elected officials.

Larson did not seek the Tribune Chronicle endorsement.
