Keep Saffold in Warren’s 6th

Democrat voters in Warren’s 6th Ward should endorse incumbent Cheryl Saffold in the May primary. Voters, though, have a quality alternative in challenger Erica Royster.

Saffold has provided her constituents with more than is expected from most ward council members. She has sponsored job fairs and has another planned specifically for teens and young adults; she has organized workshops on resume writing, filling out job applications, dressing for employment success and preparing for job interviews; and she has met with officials from the Western Reserve Transit Authority about expanding its bus routes to help 6th Ward residents with transportation to work.

Because of the social-economic status of her ward, these are ideal services from a council member.

Saffold has also been diligent in attacking blight and supporting crime watch and prevention groups in her ward. Her goals now are for surveillance cameras and the restoration of Quimby Park and its shelter house.

Royster is a political newcomer. She shares many of Saffold’s concerns, such as the ward’s need for public transportation, crime prevention and blight reduction.

The difference is Saffold has proven her ability to attack the issues. Royster, though, could be a great asset by assisting in the role of concerned citizen.
