Metroparks deal good in Liberty

Every community in Trumbull County should consider a partnership similar to the one struck between Liberty and the Trumbull County Metroparks.

The two entities entered into a long-term lease that calls for the Metroparks to operate and maintain the township’s Churchill Park. The lease saves Liberty $40,000 to $50,000 per year in maintenance, and better positions the Metroparks to obtain state and federal grants which favor partnerships such as this.

This is the first agreement between the Metroparks and a local community. It should not be the last.

Taxpayers across the county could enjoy the savings that those in Liberty are from this arrangement. Parks across the county could benefit from how favorably grant makers would look upon such a large collaboration.
