Raymond L. Pelyhes Sr. 1935-2019

NILES — Raymond L. Pelyhes Sr., 84, of Niles, died at 11:19 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019, in the emergency room at Trumbull Regional Medical Center, after suffering a heart attack at Vista at the Ridge.

Ray was born March 12, 1935, in Ashtabula, the son of the late Andrew and Elizabeth B. Kovacs Pelyhes and was a lifelong area resident.

A veteran of the United States Army, Ray served his country during the time between the Korean War and Vietnam.

A tool and die maker, Ray retired from the General Motors Lordstown plant.

He was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Niles.

Ray had a passion for singing and sang with the Stephen Foster Chorus, along with singing in three different quartets and the St. Pius X and St. Stephen Church choirs. He enjoyed golfing, traveling, bowling, cooking and being with his family.

Ray was married April 22, 1961, to the former Doris M. Dellick, and she preceded him in death Nov. 18, 2016.

Fond memories of Ray will be cherished by his son, Raymond L. (Susan) Pelyhes Jr. of Youngstown.

Besides his parents, Ray was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Kissman and Helen Enos; and by a brother, James Pelyhes.

Calling hours will take place 9 a.m. until 9:50 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, in the narthex of St. Stephen Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian burial will take place 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 129 W. Park Ave., Niles, Ohio 44446, with the Rev. James Korda as celebrant. Burial will follow in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta.
