Donald M. Ray 1921-2019

CHAMPION — Donald M. Ray, 97, of Champion, passed away Tuesday evening, March 12, 2019, at the Windsor House in Champion.

He was born Oct. 2, 1921, in Warren, a son of Albert E. and Hazel Horton Ray Sr.

Don was a 1939 graduate of Champion High School, and was employed as the treasurer for United Steel Service in Brookfield for many years, prior to retiring. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served during World War II and the Korean War.

He married the former Arlene E. Wilson on May 30, 1941. They shared almost 71 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She preceded him in death Jan. 22, 2012.

Don enjoyed camping and was an avid Cleveland Indians fan. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by three children, Jeffrey A. (Cheryl) Ray of Champion, Sharon Hayes of Warren and Marcia (Clayton) Durst of Butler, Pa.. He also leaves behind a sister, Joyce Shively of Brooksville, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Besides his wife, Don was preceded in death by a son, Redge W. Ray; and three brothers, Albert E. Jr., Neal and Richard Ray.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2019, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren, with Pastor James Dittmar officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to services, from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Don will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife in the Champion Township Cemetery.
