BRISTOLVILLE — Melissa Lee Swartz, 76, of Bristolville, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2018, following a prolonged illness at Cleveland Clinic Foundation.
She was born Feb. 26, 1942, in Warren, to Edward J. and Norma A. Hawkes Martin, and spent most of her life in the area.
A 1959 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School, Melissa attended Ohio Northern University. While there, she met the love of her life on a blind date, and after three years of dating, she married M. Gene Swartz on April 30, 1964. They shared 54 loving, wonderful and blessed years of marriage.
Melissa worked in the research facilities at Union Carbide, later to become a stay-at-home mother. Puddle Out became a success, selling in stores in several states and shipping nationwide. Melissa had numerous other interests, as well, including a great love of reading and book sales, knitting and crocheting, and her own pets.
Melissa was sustained by her deep faith in God and her profound love of her family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Gene Swartz of Bristolville; daughter, Jennifer Swartz-Levine, and her son-in-law, Timothy Levine. She also leaves behind many dear cousins and friends, as well as her cats, especially Emily and Maud.
In addition to her parents and in-laws, Melissa was preceded in death by an infant son, Matthew Gabriel Swartz.
