Gale E. Johnson 1958-2018

WARREN — Gale E. Johnson, 59, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

She was born Oct. 30, 1958, in Ravenna, the daughter of Nehemiah and Loda Smith Spencer.

A graduate of Warren Western Reserve High School and Youngstown State University, Gale retired from Copperweld Steel after 30 years of employment.

She belonged to the 9 to 5 Working Women Association, had been president of the Warren chapter, and was a member of the Black Achievement Hall of Fame and the NAACP in Warren. She enjoyed music, helping others and family gatherings.

She is survived by her husband, Charles Holmes; three daughters, Angel Johnson (Christopher) Reynolds of Warren, Andriel Johnson of Beachwood and Ariel Holmes of Warren; four stepchildren, David Holmes of Austintown, Charles Holmes Jr. of Louisville, Ky., Rosalind Holmes of Cincinnati and Kevin Bradberry of Louisville, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; five sisters, Delinda Rogers and Sheila (Steve) Jones, both of Columbus, Natalie (Frank) Scott of Austintown, Florita Spencer of Warren and Michelle Stevenson; three brothers, Pennell of Montana, Alfred of Warren and George Spencer of Tennessee.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, Billy Johnson Jr., two sisters; and two brothers.

Services are noon Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2018, at First Assembly of God Church, Warren.

Arrangements have been handled by Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, Warren.
