Ronald Pettitt 1936-2018

FOWLER — Ronald Pettitt, 82, of Fowler, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2018, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.

He was born April 29, 1936, in Sharon, Pa., the son of Arthur Howard Pettitt and Alma Hudspeth Pettitt.

He was a Hartford High School graduate and a U.S. Army veteran.

He retired from Taylor Winfield after working 28 years as a maintenance supervisor and working on the test floor.

Ronald was a member of the Hartford Community Church, where he was a former elder and trustee and funded the restoration of the bell tower in memory of his wife, Phyllis. He was also a retired assistant chief of the Hartford Fire Department.

He enjoyed NASCAR, travel and his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Smith Pettitt, on March 11, 2007. They were married Dec. 20, 1958.

He is survived by two sons, Michael (Liz) Pettitt of Rock Hill, S.C., and Martin Pettitt of Fowler; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Witchey of Hartford.

Friends and relatives may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2018, at Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 state Route 7, Hartford.

The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, 2018, at the Hartford Community Church, 3312 state Route 7, Hartford. The Rev. Scott Flanders will officiate.

Burial will be in Hartford Township Cemetery.
