Jane Macklin 1926-2018

ST. LOUIS — Elmira “Jane” Macklin, 92, passed peacefully Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at Tesson Heights Assisted Living Center.

She was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Rochester, Pa., the daughter of George and Elmira Fleming Sewall. She loved playing baseball on her father’s neighborhood baseball team.

Jane moved to Newton Falls in the 1930s, graduating from Newton Falls High School and later attending Kent State University. She worked among many other women at the Ravenna Arsenal during World War II.

On June 25, 1948, Jane married Drury “Drue” Boyd. During their marriage, the family grew to include their children, Barbara, Cynthia, Kyle and Judy. Jane and Drue were married for 22 years until his passing in 1970. One of her favorite memories with Drue was visiting Italy while he worked there.

Jane started a new life when she married Gene Macklin in 1980. She was extremely active in the Newton Falls Order of the Eastern Star, alongside Gene’s role in the Masonic Lodge. Jane and Gene moved to Port Charlotte, Fla., in 1994, enjoying over 20 years of happily living there. Jane and Gene were blessed with almost 35 years of marriage before Gene’s passing in 2015.

Memories of Jane will be carried on by her children, Barbara Beard, Cynthia (Jim) Marsico and Kyle (Barbara) Boyd; her grandchildren, Kristen (Steve) MacDonald, Penny (Mike) Calawa, Daryl (Shelly) Ginter and David (Kelly) Ginter; her great-grandchildren, Boyd MacDonald, Hanna, Nicole and Ellis Calawa, Alexis, Callie and Delaney Ginter and David and Lucas Ginter; and her great-great-grandchildren, Sophia, Nico, Jaxson and Kai.

Preceding Jane in death were her daughter, Judy McWhirter; her brother, George Sewall II; her son-in-law, Barry Beard; and her grandchildren, Troy Ginter and Breanna Ginter.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2018, at the Newton Falls United Methodist Church, where a service will be at noon. The Rev. Jeffrey L. Lanzer will officiate.

Interment will be in the Newton Township Cemetery in Newton Falls.

Arrangements for Jane were entrusted to the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls.
