Harry Burnett 1926-2018

WARREN — Harry Burnett, at the age of 91, passed away of natural causes on Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Windsor Place.

He was born Oct. 10, 1926, in Warren, to Paul and Pauline Burnett.

He graduated from Lordstown High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 based at Titian, Marianas during World War II. In 1951, he and his father started the family business of Burnett Pools Inc. He was proud of the many pools he built over the years and stood by his motto of “Where Quality Counts.” He was also owner of Warren Fence Company and Barnhills Ice Cream Parlor in Cortland. He retired in 1986 and turned the business over to his four children.

He was involved in many organizations over the years and felt very strongly about them all. He was Past President of the National Swimming Pool Mideast Chapter, Past President of Warren Rotary Club, Past Master of Cortland Masonic Lodge No. 529, NE Builders Association member, Warren Buckeye Club, and while in North Carolina, he started Tryon Rotary Club and joined the Oasis Shriners Club.

He was a long time member of the Bazetta Christian Church, where he was Elder Emeritus and leader of youth groups and friendly circle. He loved traveling to many other countries as well as here in the states. He also liked going to auctions, working with his hands on many special projects, playing cards and poker with friends and family, golfing and spending many evenings ballroom dancing and doing the jitterbug. He was known for his sense of humor and his caring ways.

He was very proud of his family, including his four children, Myra (Jim) May, Holly Hess, Alan ( Lynn) Burnett and Gary (Wanda) Burnett; and eight grandchildren, Steve May of Florida, Brad May of Farmdale, Julie (Dan) Mamula of New Philadelphia, Brian (Bridget) Foist of Bethesda, Md., Julie (Ryan) Bottiglieri of Burbank, Calif., Jenn (Jim) Biviano of Denver, Christine Hess of Cortland and Clint Hess of Cleveland. His 11 great-grandchildren brought him much joy and many special memories. Other family members include a sister, Jerry Fisher of Conyers, Ga. and a special cousin, Ruthie Peterson of Columbiana.

No funeral will be held at this time.

Family will have a memorial service 2 p.m. on July 2 at Bazetta Christian Church.

Any donations made in memory of Harry should be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Rotary Club of Warren or Bazetta Christian Church, in his honor.
