Melvine J. Rowland 1923-2018

PARMA — Melvine Justine Rowland, 94, passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 15, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Waco, Ohio, the daughter of Justina Lintz Miller and George Miller. Mrs. Rowland, formerly of Williamsfield, lived in Parma for the past four years.

A graduate of Canton Township High School, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Capital University. She married Edsel F. Rowland on June 21, 1947.

Mrs. Rowland taught English, Latin and French at Williamsfield High School. She was also a substitute teacher and postal clerk at Williamsfield Post Office. Mrs. Rowland was an active member of the Williamsfield United Methodist Church, serving as United Methodist Women treasurer for many years. She was an avid reader and member of Bay View Literary Club.

Mrs. Rowland was a loving wife, mother, superb baker and excellent cook.

Survivors include her children, Ford W. “Bill” (Luz) Rowland of O’Fallon, Ill.; Gloria (John) Homolak of Parma Heights and John R. “Jack” (Jody) Rowland of Farmdale; three grandchildren, Michael Homolak, John Rowland and Jenna (Greg) Mallow; three great-grandchildren, Kelsie (Daniel) Porter, Emma Roos and Ethan Mallow; and two great-great-grandchildren, Bay L. Porter and Konnor Porter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 46 years, Edsel F. Rowland; granddaughter, Tanya L. Roos; sister, Helen Lum and three brothers, George, Henry and Martin Miller.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2018, at Baumgardner Funeral Home, 8569 Main St., Kinsman. A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the funeral home, with Pastor Lyle W. Lipps officiating. Burial will follow in Williamsfield Center Cemetery.
