Ernest L. Emerson Sr. 1939-2018

CHAMPION — Ernest L. Emerson Sr.,78, of Champion, passed away Monday morning, May 21, 2018, at his residence, with his family at his side.

He was born July 22, 1939, in Point Marion, Pa., a son, Theodore H. and Grace L. Stone Emerson.

Ernie was employed as a welder for General Motors in Lordstown for 30 years, retiring in 2003. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He married the former Betty L. Stiles on Aug. 23, 1962. They shared almost 56 years of marriage and many happy memories together. She survives him.

Ernie was a member of the General Assembly Church of God in Newton Falls. He was a car enthusiast and enjoyed anything having to do with the military.

Besides his wife, Ernie is survived by four children, Rebecca L. (Jim) Davis of Southington, Ernest L. (Michelle) Emerson II of Warren, Deborah R. (Tim) Youngblood of Warren and Earl L. (Tami) Emerson of Gloucester, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Edward; and a sister, Evelyn Emerson.

Funeral services were held at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren, with Pastor Mitch Meadors officiating.

He was laid to rest with military honors in the Pineview Memorial Park, Warren.
