Helen Baer 1935-2018
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Helen Baer, 82, of Charlottesville, Va., went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at Charlottesville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Charlottesville.
Helen was born Sept. 24, 1935, in Girard, the daughter of John and Anna Hudak.
She attended Youngstown College and studied bookkeeping and accounting, which was her profession for most of her life. Upon retirement in 1998, she lived with her daughter Victoria and her family in Bethlehem, Pa., and moved with them to Charlottesville in 2003.
A humble, Christian woman, Helen shared her faith and love for the Lord by her words and actions. Her kitchen table was often surrounded by neighborhood children and she quietly served the elderly and families in need in whatever way she could. Her five grandchildren, and grand-dog, Oscar, were the delight of her life.
She is survived by son, William J. Baer and his family, wife, Jill and sons, Kolton and Wyatt, of Vernon; daughter, Victoria Danilich and her family, husband, Michael and sons, Jonathan and Nicholas, of Charlottesville; daughter, Kelli Gamble and her family, husband, Mark and daughter, Emma, of Austintown; former husband, William C. Baer of Vernon; three sisters, Mary Semko of Georgia, Margaret (Gerald) Brandenstein of Girard and Dorothy Mayoras of Girard; brother, Alec (Norma) Hudak of Girard; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Michael Hudak of Warren, John Hudak of Girard, Joseph Hudak of Girard and Ann Tarkanish of Youngstown.
Helen’s family and friends will celebrate her life at a memorial luncheon in Ohio in the spring.
The family extends their thanks and gratitude to the staff of the Charlottesville Health and Rehabilitation Center for their care and compassion during the past six months.
Local arrangements were handled by Hill and Wood Funeral Service, Charlottesville.
