Harry S. Armstrong 1929-2018

COLUMBUS — Harry S. Armstrong, 88, passed away Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018.

He was born Oct. 6, 1929, in Columbus, the youngest of five children of Garnet and Orval Judson “O.J.” Armstrong.

Harry was a man of many trades, starting in the steel industry and working finally in construction. Harry was proud of his children and what they had done with their lives becoming not only successful in their careers, but also caring adults.

He met his wife, Geraldine, in Philadelphia while convalescing at the Naval hospital recovering from injuries acquired during his service in the Korean War. After many years taking care of his family in Ohio, he moved south, to North Carolina, where he eventually retired.

He was a regular on Sundays at his church, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem, N.C.

He is survived by his sons, Jerome and Jeffrey Armstrong; and his granddaughter, Shannon Eichorn.

Harry was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Louise, Betty and Thelma; one brother, Orval Judson Jr.; and his wife, Geraldine.

A memorial service will be held at the church at a date to be determined and he will be buried in Sycamore Cemetery with his mother in Hurricane, W.Va.
