Ordwell P. Burr Jr. 1930-2018

MIDDLETOWN — Ordwell Perry Burr Jr., 87, formerly of Warren, passed away Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Arlington Pointe Nursing Facility.

He was born July 1, 1930, the son of the late Ordwell Perry Burr Sr. and Emma Montgomery Burr.

He was a 1948 graduate of Boardman High School. He attended The Ohio State University from 1948 to 1954, earning both a Bachelor of Science in business administration degree and a Master of Business Administration degree. While at OSU, he proudly marched in “TBDBITL,” playing the trombonium, a compact version of a trombone. He often spoke of his experience in the band and his two trips to the Rose Bowl.

After Ohio State, he began a 40-year career in the steel industry. He worked for the U.S. Steel Corp., Birmingham Steel and Copperweld Steel, first as an industrial engineer and then as a statistical analyst. In addition to his work at the steel mill, he taught both economics and statistics at Youngstown State University for 21 years.

He was an avid reader, enjoying books on history, math, economics and statistics.

He was also passionate about classical music, Scottish pipe bands and marching bands. He was a very kind and generous man, giving his time to Junior Achievement to tutor students.

He was also very proud of his children, Perry (Michelle) Burr of Germantown, Md. and Becca (Steve) Sander of Middletown. He enjoyed spending time with his four grandchildren, Emily and Alexander Burr and Ethan and Jackson Sander.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife, Ann Louise Sampson Burr, whom he married Aug. 4, 1957 and who passed away April 13, 2015; and by his brothers, Warren Burr and Perry Burr.

Family and friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at the Peter Rossi Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483, followed immediately by a service at the funeral home with Pastor Dan Devadan officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery in Boardman.
