Eiko Hughes 1931-2017

CHAMPION — Eiko “Baba” Mizuno Hughes, 86, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at her residence surrounded by her daughters.

She was born Nov. 27, 1931, in Sapporo, Japan, the daughter of the late Iwao and Yaso Mizuno.

Eiko met her husband Ervin while working for the U.S. government in Sapporo, Japan. They married Sept. 19, 1956, and moved to the United States, where she and Ervin led a true military life, moving every three years until he retired in 1971. Throughout this journey, they had three daughters and resided in Warren.

Baba’s hobbies included quilting, sewing, cooking, knitting and spending time with her family. She was the “leader of the pack” in many ways and will be missed by all that knew her.

Memories of Eiko will be carried on by daughters, Barbara Crawford (Jeff Goldner) of Champion, Patricia (Danny) Webber of Howland and Debbie (Frank) Sneyd of Matthews, N.C.; grandchildren, Heather (Adam) Miller, Michael (Rachel) Crawford, Brian Webber, Victoria Sneyd and Paul Sneyd; and great-grandchildren, Anna and Lukas Miller.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Tsuruko Nakai; husband, Ervin Hughes; and son-in-law, Michael Crawford.

The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at McFarland and Son Funeral Home, Warren.

Services will be at noon Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2018, at McFarland and Son Funeral Home, Warren, with Pastor Mitch Meadors officiating.

Interment will follow at Meadow Brook Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Heart Association or Hospice of the Valley.
