Carrie Byrd 1922-2018
WARREN — Carrie Byrd, 95, passed away Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Signature Healthcare in Warren, following an extended illness.
Carrie was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Montgomery, Ala., a daughter of William Belser and Alberta Potts Belser.
She attended the Montgomery School System.
She married Otis Byrd Sr. on Jan. 17, 1940; he died July 27, 2004.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, the Silver Leaf Choir and Eastern Star.
She was a lover of her entire family, an excellent gardener and a seamstress.
Survivors include her sons, Otis (Wanda) Byrd Jr. of North Charleston S.C., and Timothy (Cynthia) Byrd of Warren; sister, Alberta Evans of Montgomery, Ala.; four grandchildren, Carla King, Christopher Byrd, Douglas Sutton and Carrie Byrd; and four great-grandchildren, Shawna King, Terrance King, Ciara Byrd and Keara Byrd.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alberta; five brothers, Henderson, Robert, William, Clarence and Eddie; and one sister, Willie Mae.
Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018, at Friendship Baptist Church. A funeral service will follow calling hours at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment will be in Pineview Memorial Park.
