Carl Johnson Sr. 1936-2017

CORTLAND — Carl Johnson Sr., 81, of Cortland, passed away Thursday, Dec. 28, 2017, at the Hospice House in Poland, with his family by his bedside. He had a brief battle with an illness that took his physical body yet released his spirit into the presence of God.

He was born April 27, 1936, in Red House, W.Va., a son of the late Bert and Pearl Mary Pettery Johnson.

Carl was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Bay of Pigs Invasion and peacetime. He was a member of First Assembly of God Church on Parkman Road. Carl enjoyed going to the games and watching the Cleveland Indians and Browns on TV. He was a warmhearted, kind man, with a love for the Word of God. He devoted most of his time as a selfless caregiver to his wife, Margaret A. “Margie” Johnson, whom he married June 18, 1983. Carl’s presence will be missed by his loving family and friends.

Besides his wife, Carl is survived by a son, Raymond D. (Ann-Marie) Johnson, of Alabama; two grandsons, Ryan Johnson of Florida and Brandon Johnson of Colorado; and two stepchildren, Harold J. (Tina) McCammon of Oregon and Sharon G. McCammon, a missionary to Vilnius, Lithuania.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two of his children, Johanna Patricia Chauffee and Carl Johnson Jr.

A celebration of his faith and life will be 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, at the Warren First Assembly of God Church, with Pastors Derek Boivin and Darren Brown officiating. Friends may call 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Warren First Assembly of God Church. Carl will be laid to rest in the Meadowbrook Memorial Park, Champion.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that material contributions be made to the “Lord’s Table” feeding ministry at the First Assembly of God Church, 2640 Parkman Road NW, Warren, OH 44485, in his memory.
