James H. VanEkeren 1929-2017

MONTGOMERY, Ill. — James Hoagland VanEkeren, 88, of Montgomery, Ill., entered into eternal rest Saturday, Dec. 23, 2017, at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, Ill.

James was born Feb. 26, 1929, in Monroe, Iowa, the son of the late Dick and Edith Hoagland VanEkeren.

James was a veteran and retired from the U.S. Air Force as a chief master sergeant.

James married the former Elberta May Holden on May 25, 1952. James and Elberta have been blessed with 65 wonderful years of marriage. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Newton, Iowa, and the Scottish Rite in Bellefontaine, Ohio. James and Elberta have lived in Montgomery for many years and were formerly of Newton Falls.

Loving memories of James will be carried on by his wife, Elberta May VanEkeren of Montgomery; daughter, Jillynn (David) Brandt of Montgomery; brother, Philip (Berta) VanEkeren of Monroe, Iowa; grandsons, Matthew (Amanda) Brandt of Perrysburg and Jason (Teah) Brandt of Elburn, Ill.; and great-grandson, Benjamin Brandt.

James was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy VanEkeren; his sister, Norma Celania; and brother, Ramon VanEkeren.

Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at James Funeral Home, Newton Falls. Funeral services will follow at noon Friday at the funeral home. James will be laid to rest in Lutheran Cemetery.
