Edwin T. Sly 1938-2017

MESOPOTAMIA — Edwin T. Sly, 79, of Mesopotamia, passed away suddenly Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2017, at UH Geauga Hospital.

He was born Aug. 30, 1938, in Windsor, to the late Jesse and Emma Finch Sly.

He went on to boot camp in the U.S. Army.

He worked for the Local 18 Operating Engineers union and was an operator/paver until his retirement in 2000. He was a tinkerer and could fix anything that anyone brought to him. He loved to fish and work on his lawn mowers. He had the uncanny ability to take a dollar bill and make rings from them, draw large eared monkeys and color with or without his grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Janet Morrison Sly, whom he married Jan. 19, 1963; his children, Deborah (David) Jenkins, Kimberlie Sly, Suzzette (Scott) Hinkle and Kenneth Sly; a sister, Norma Byler; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Edwin Thomas Sly Jr.; and siblings, Dale, Mary Ellen Jones, Beatrice Hatch, Betty Kazuk, Jesse and Don.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 8, 2017, at Russell-Sly Family Funeral Home, 15670 W. High St. Middlefield, OH 44062. A celebration of his life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2017, at the funeral home. He will be buried in Fairview Cemetery in Mesopotamia at a later date.
