Richard E. Rice 1933-2017

VIENNA — Richard Edward Rice, 83, of Vienna, passed away Monday evening, Nov. 7, 2017, in Laughlin, Nev., while vacationing.

Richard was born Nov. 30, 1933, in Mantua, a son of George and Marion Lorenz Rice and had been a lifelong area resident.

He was a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring after 30 years, and was an Air Force veteran. He was a member of the American Legion and the National Rural Letter Carrier’s Association. Among his interests, Richard was an avid bowler, and he enjoyed reading and following the Cleveland sports teams. With his wife, he enjoyed traveling the U.S. in their R.V.

His wife, the former Bernice Stowell, whom he married June 10, 1957, died March 8, 2016.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Norma Martin of Bazetta; two sons, Roger Rice, also of Bazetta and Richard Rice, with whom he made his home; a brother, David Rice of Gustavus; a sister, Cynthia Yaney of Hemet, Calif.; three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Holmes; his grandson, Craig Sopkovich; and two sisters.

Per his request, cremation is taking place. There are no services or calling hours.
