Laura M. Kandiko 1968-2017
ROCKLEDGE, Fla. — Laura Marie Kandiko, 48, of Rockledge, Fla., passed away Friday, July 14, 2017, in Gainesville, Fla., surrounded by family after a five-month battle with HLH disease.
Laura was born Aug. 14, 1968, in Akron, the daughter of Dan and Jean Rickert Kandiko.
She was a 1983 graduate of Newton Falls High School and a graduate of Florida International College in Miami.
She grew up in Northampton Township, Summit County, and moved to Newton Falls in 1978.
Laura joined the Newton Falls High School marching band and has been dancing ever since.
Laura worked for Take Stock in Children in Brevard County, Fla., finding mentors for high school children, encouraging them and finding scholarships to go to college. Most recently, she worked as an energy conservation specialist for Brevard County Schools.
Her sons will remember her loving spirit, encouraging them in their many school activities; swimming, soccer, science fairs, scouts, many camping trips with family and friends and most recently, a family cruise.
Laura is survived her sons, Stephan Victor and Ryan Victor of Rockledge; her parents, Dan and Jean of Newton Falls; her grandfather, Merle Rickert of Satellite Beach, Fla.; her brothers, Blaise (Lynn) Kandiko of Madison, Maine, Carl (Diane Sinkule) Kandiko of Valkaria, Fla., and Steven (Kristy) Kandiko of Struthers; a sister, Kate (Phillip) Peck of Newton Falls; and her boyfriend, Bill Carlson of Sebastian, Fla.
She also will be remembered by her foster children, Avalia Wisely, Tony Wisely and Ray “Ray-Ray” Collins and several others; along with 10 nieces and nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joseph Kandiko, Matilda Prekop Niezgoda and Vesta Heichelbech Rickert.
Her sons would like to thank family members and friends for their kind words and support during this difficult time. A special thank you to Aunt Marlene Rickert; friends Dawn, Fran, Kelly, Ann, Deana; cousin Jennifer; Aunt Judy; and Bill Carlson.

A celebration of life will be 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017, at First Christian Church Fellowship Hall, 17 N. Center St., Newton Falls.
