Eleanor M. Barnum 1919-2017

HOWLAND — Eleanor M. Barnum, 98, passed away Monday, July 17, 2017, at Burbank Parke Care Center in Burbank, Ohio.

Eleanor was born July 14, 1919, in Mineral Ridge, to William and Marie Bowen Young.

She graduated from Niles McKinley High School in 1937. On Aug. 28, 1940, she was united in marriage to Donald Barnum by the Rev. Robert Taylor at Howland Community Church. She worked in the credit department of Sears for 21 years before working in payroll for Columbia Iron and Metal. She retired in 1982.

Eleanor was a faithful member of Howland Community Church for 78 years and served as a Deaconess Emeritus. She was a member of Howland Homemakers and a past president of the Howland Volunteer Fireman Auxiliary.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, sending greeting cards and loved being around people.

Eleanor is survived by her daughter, Denise (John) Morfchak of Lodi; her grandsons, John D. (Katie) Morfchak and Jared Morfchak, all of Wadsworth; her brothers, Edward (Joann) Young and Robert (Marlyne) Young; and her sister, June Orwig; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Eleanor was preceded her in death by her husband, Donald, on Aug. 12, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Akins; and her brothers, Harry and William Young.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 23, at Lane Funeral Homes, Warren Location, 180 Garfield Drive NE. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 24, at Howland Community Church, 198 Niles Cortland Road, Howland. The family will receive friends at church for an hour prior to the service.
