Andrew Cvercko

NORTH LIMA — Andrew Cvercko, 95, of North Lima, passed away Monday evening, July 3, 2017.

Andrew was born March 9, 1922, in Campbell, the son of Andrew and Anna Evan Cvercko.

He was a graduate of Campbell Memorial High School and went on to further his education at Youngstown College, The Dana Musical Institute and received his master’s degree at Kent State University. Also, Andrew served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1945.

Andrew was an instructor of music and chorus in the Fowler/Vienna School District, principal in the Fowler/Vienna School District and board member and retired school superintendent of Mathews Local School District.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church; past president of the FROC; St. Andrew’s choir director for 56 years; choir director of St. John’s in Campbell and Warren and the Male Chorus Director of Northeast Ohio; founder of the St. Vladamir Retreat and Camp Center, formerly the FROC Camp and FROC camp director for more than 20 years; past president of the Ohio Music Education Association District 5, in 1957, where his band was recognized as First Chair of America; and a member of the Kiwanis Club of Vienna, the Russian Brotherhood Organization Lodge 198, Scout Master of the Boy Scouts in Campbell and the The Eastern Orthodox Men’s Society. He ran the EOMS golf league for several years and was an avid bowler in the Warren and Youngstown areas. He was also an ABC Avid Golfer in Warren and Youngstown and a member of the YMCA, competing in racquetball and handball tournaments.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Anne Pecuszok, whom he married Dec. 22, 1967; his children, Dave (Lisa) Cvercko of Nashville, Tenn., Donya (Todd) Wilson of Columbus, Dan (Agni) Cvercko of Boardman, Elaine Lawrence of Ravenna, Janet (Gary) King of Cortland, June Stewart of Boston and Andrew J. (Olga) Cvercko of Melbourne, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John and Michael Cvercko; and four sisters, Susan Reichert, Anne Billik, Mary Siembedia and Elizabeth Cvercko.

The Cvercko family has entrusted their loved one to the care of the Wasko Funeral Home in Campbell and will receive family and friends 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Campbell, where a 7:30 p.m. Panahida service will be conducted, and again 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017, at the church. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Andrew Nelko officiating.
