Anton C. Fischer
ATHENS, Ga. — Anton “Carl” Fischer, 92, passed away Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, in Athens, Ga.
He was born May 7, 1924, in Warren, a son of Anton and Barbara Kusterer Fischer.
A Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the LST 688, as a signalman, he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Medal with three stars and the American Area Medal and Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars.
Carl was a familiar face in the Howland-Warren area for 40 years, as the owner of Carl Fischer Construction before becoming the superintendant of construction for the Marriott Corporation, overseeing the remodling of most of the rest stops for the state of Florida. A man who loved to be active, he held numerous jobs until his self-proclaimed retirement at age 82. Carl was an avid cook throughout his life. His culinary skills were the delight of his family and friends.
He is survived by his sons, Dennis, Robert and Jerry; and daughter, Kathy; four grandchildren, Joshua, Sarah, Rachael and Dennis; and two great-grandchildren, Skylar and Nora.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Connie Klutch Fischer; his parents, Anton and Barbara; and his brother, Joe Fisher.
A memorial military Honor Guard service will take place 11 a.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at All Souls Cemetery in Bazetta.
