Thomas G. James Sr.

CHAMPION — Thomas G. James Sr., 79, passed away Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, at Windsor House in Champion.

He was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Newton Falls, the son of David and Opal James.

He retired from Copperweld Steel as an inspector in the finishing department after 42 years.

He has since been an active member of the Moose Lodge and Masonic Temple. His hobbies included riding his motorcycle, cooking, fishing, bocce, skiing and flying planes. He enjoyed Ohio State sports, Cleveland sports and above all, any sport that included his grandchildren. Finally, he was at his happiest when he was with his family and friends. He was the ultimate people person.

He is survived by his children, Tammy (Craig) Nicholas of Warren, Mark (Monica) James of Arlington, Texas, Thomas James Jr. of Champion, Jesse (Debbie) James of Champion and Jonny (Sandy) James of Estero, Fla.; 12 grandchildren, Natalie (Jim), Abby, Olivia, Jason (Mellisa), Stacy (Chance), Mike (Molly), Kimberly, Brooke, Danielle, Zachary, Brandon and Paxton; one great-grandchild, Averie; a sister, Marjorie Drass of Cortland; and his ex-wife, Sondra James Pinney of Estero, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley James; and a son, Donald James.

Family and friends may call 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday and 11 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483.

A service will be 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Champion Township Cemetery.
