Julie A. Schultz
1932-2017
NILES — Julie A. Speer Schultz, 84, entered Heaven’s gates peacefully Tuesday evening, Jan. 10, 2017 at Autumn Hills Care Center, Niles.
She was born Feb. 8, 1932, in Belle Vernon, Pa., the daughter of the late Stuart and Julia Speer Sr.
She was a 1950 graduate of Ridgeway High School, Ridgeway, Pa., and went on to become a registered nurse after graduating from Presbyterian University Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. She enjoyed her nursing career at Passavant Hospital in Pittsburgh, and later at Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren. She later went on to keep books for many years for her husband’s towing business in Warren.
Julie was a woman of faith with a beautiful and gentle spirit who loved her family. She loved to read and was talented at crocheting and embroidering. She made many afghans and loved giving them as gifts to her family. She was best at simple conversation and made everyone feel special as she listened to their stories. Julie was a friend to all, and often comforted those around her at the nursing homes. Though she battled MS for many years along with other illnesses, she remained a hero with incredible strength and endurance to all who knew her.
Julie will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Edwin W. Schultz Sr., whom she married on Sept. 11, 1954. Together they raised six children: Edwin (Michelle Miller) Schultz Jr. of Howland, Susan (Mike) Mamula of Vienna, Linda (Larry) Rankin of Kinsman, Sally (Ben) Bertok of Canfield, Julie (Albert) Taylor of Green Bay, Wisc. and Jim (Jill Domhoff) Schultz of Cortland. Also left to cherish her memory are 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a sister, Mary Francis (Jim) Bressler of Chambersburg, Pa.; and two brothers, William (Betty) Speer of Concord, N.C., and RADM Paul H. Speer, of Ridgeway, Pa. Julie also will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Julie was preceeded in death by her beloved brother, Stuart Speer Jr. and sisters-in law, Jennie Speer and Ruth Cornelius.
Cremation has taken place, and per Julie’s request, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date with her final resting place in her hometown of Ridgeway, Pa.
Oak Meadow Crematory is honored to handle the arrangements.
The family wishes to thank friends and staff at Autumn Hills Care Center and Southern Care Hospice for their compassion and care during her final year.
