Doris M. Hawkins

1929-2017

NEWTON FALLS — Doris Mae Hawkins, 87, of Newton Falls, passed away peacefully into eternal life at her residence on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born March 27, 1929, in Warren, the daughter of the late Leroy and Florence Henry Garland.

Doris married the love of her life, Eugene G. Hawkins, on Sept. 12, 1947, and they enjoyed 43 years of blessed marriage together before his passing on Nov. 24, 1990.

Doris had lived all her life in Newton Falls and had worked as a clerk for Aid & Save and Trumbull Savings and Loan.

She was a member of the Newton Falls United Methodist Church, five times past president and 46-year life member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary #3332, the Knights of Pythians, and was the past president of Hobby Hunters.

Doris loved shopping and taking annual trips with her daughters. She never met a kid in her neighborhood she did not like. Doris had a friendly word and a beautiful smile to all who knew her.

Memories of Doris will be carried on by her loving family; her daughters, Wanda Thompson and her special friend Ray Ornelas of Newton Falls, Sandra and Jack Mathews of Warren, and Kathy and Dave Rapczak of Newton Falls; her son, Kenneth Hawkins of Newton Falls; her brother, the Rev. Will Garland; her companion, Frank Kuzma of Industry, Pa.; her grandchildren, Tonya and Joe Fleming, Jeanette and Jeremy Willoughby, Kirk and Stephanie Mathews, Bradley and Meredith Mathews, Bethany and Doug Kereszturi, David and Jennifer Rapczak, and Kristie and John Drake; her 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; eight brothers, and three sisters.

A VFW Auxiliary Service will be held for Doris at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017. Calling hours will immediately follow from 6 to 8 p.m. at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls.

Calling hours also will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, 2017, at the funeral home, where a funeral service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Reid Lamport officiating. Doris will be laid to rest at Lutheran Cemetery in Newton Falls.
