Charles R. Ratini 1924-2016
WEST FARMINGTON — Charles R. Ratini, 92, of West Farmington, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2016, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
Charles was born Oct. 18, 1924, in Jenkins, Ky., the son of Feliziano and Elizabeth Horvath Ratini.
He proudly served our country in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He participated in the battle of Iwo Jima, where he received a Purple Heart for his injuries.
Charles was employed by Copperweld Steel in the shipping department, retiring from his duties after 36 years in 1984.
In December 1946, Charles was united in marriage to Betty Jane Fenton. Betty preceded him in death Jan. 29, 1999.
Charles was a member of the Summit Beagle Club and raised beagles and Rottweilers. He enjoyed raising and caring for many varieties of birds. Charles was a hunter and avid outdoorsman, where he could feel at one with nature.
Cherished memories of Charles will be carried on by his sister, Helen Salem of Bristolville; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Charles in death were his wife and brothers, Alfred, Joseph and Frank.
Family and friends may call 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, 2016, at Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls, where services will take place at 3 p.m. A committal service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Crown Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum. Charles will be laid to rest next to his wife, Betty.
