MARYSVILLE — Marilyn James Sherer, 73, of Marysville, formerly of Fowler, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2016, at Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville.

She was born July 17, 1943, in Youngstown to the late Thomas E. and Arline Bartholomew James Sr.

A retired registered nurse, she was a former associate of Trumbull Medical Group, where she served as clinical manager. She was a 1961 graduate of Fowler High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing from The Ohio State University, where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta.

Writing poetry brought her much happiness, and she was a member and International Poet of Merit Award winner with the International Society of Poets. She loved flowers, especially her daisies. She was an avid sports fan and loved the OSU Buckeyes and Cleveland teams. She cherished her loving times with her grandchildren and enjoyed watching them compete in athletics. She was a resident of Brookdale Senior Living, where she was head of the movie committee and liked to introduce other residents to an eclectic variety of films.

She is survived by her children, Scott (Sherry) Sherer of Milford Center, Jeffrey (Teresa Allison) Sherer of Houston and Thomas (Michelle) Sherer of Lewis Center; her grandchildren, Rachel, Laura, Eric and John; her former spouse, Larry Sherer (Mary Lou Duff); two brothers, Thomas (Claudia “Kay”) James Jr. and James “Darryl” (Carla) James, both of Vienna; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Underwood Funeral Home in Marysville. A celebration of life gathering will be 7 p.m. Friday at Lane Family Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel in Warren, where the family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. The Rev. Mary Prior will officiate. Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Vienna Township Cemetery.
