Louis L. Conlan 1933-2016

VIENNA — Louis L. “Sonny” Conlan, 83, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, Nov. 8, 2016, at his home.

He was born July 9, 1933, in Willoughby and was the son of Louis J. and Hazele Richar Conlan and moved to Niles in 1938. He attended St. Stephen Elementary School and was a 1951 graduate of Niles McKinley High School. Louis honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He retired in June 1995, after working 31 years as a rubber molder at Packard Electric Co. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Warren.

Sonny enjoyed delivering cars for Mark Thomas Ford in Cortland for 10 years after his retirement from Packard. Louis and Mary enjoyed camping, country music and traveling when they could, NASCAR, fishing in Canada with his sons and grandsons, cookouts, campfires, college football and life in general. He never wanted to stay idle for too long.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sadly missed by all. Louis is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary E. Beich Conlan, whom he married Aug. 20, 1971; two sons, Michael (Cathy) Conlan of Liberty Township and Kevin Conlan of Cortland; two daughters, Dawn Marie (Dennis) Bowers of Warren and Jennifer (Jeff) Shultz of Liberty; stepson, Ross Lehman Sr. of Cortland; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son in May 1974; and a stepdaughter, Lorraine Lehman Parker.

Calling hours will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, at Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Sts. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church. Family and friends may meet at church  Monday. Burial will be in St. Stephen Cemetery.
