Jean S. Davis
CORTLAND — Jean Strimel Davis, 89, of Cortland, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Lake Vista surrounded by her family.
Jean was born July 4, 1927, in McDonald, Pa., to the late Herman and Pearl Lewis Strimel. Jean and her husband Gomer came to the Cortland area in 2006 from Greensburg, Pa.; they spent many winters in Palm Bay, Fla.
Jean was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Delmont, Pa., and she attended the Cortland Christian Church.
She retired from the West Penn Power Company, which is now First Energy, after many years of service.
Besides her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gomer H. Davis Jr., whom she married Aug. 14, 1967; he passed away July 14, 2012; her stepson, Thomas E. Davis; her brothers, Edward and the Rev. John J. Strimel; and sister-in-law, Jean Strimel.
Jean is survived by her brother, Thomas Strimel; her niece, Joyce (Ernest) Leedy; her nephew, Jay (Janet) Strimel; a great niece and great nephew and their families; and her feline companion, Peppy.
Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016 at the Lane Family Funeral Home, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St. in Cortland, and 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016, at the Cortland Christian Church, 153 Grove St. in Cortland, where Pastor Donald Barnes will officiate the funeral service at 3 p.m. Interment will be 1 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 , 2016, at Braddock Cemetery in Braddock, Pa.
Memorial donations may be made to the Cortland Christian Church or to the Faith United Methodist Church in Delmont, Pa.
