CORTLAND — Bobby Richardson, 81, formerly of North Bloomfield, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016, at Lake Vista of Cortland with his family by his side after a long-term illness.
Bobby was born July 30, 1935, in Lester, W.Va., the son of the late Jessie Richardson and Lottie Canaday Richardson.
He was one of seven children, four brothers and two sisters, Marvin, Jimmy, Jigs, Donald, Mozetta and Dorothy.
Bobby left his hometown of Lester, W.Va., to join the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964. After his service, he worked for Republic Steel / LTV / WCI in Warren as a train engineer for 40 years.
He married Carol Smith Richardson on Feb. 6, 1976. They enjoyed spending many winters in Old Town, Fla.
Bobby enjoyed spending his spare time with his many friends and family members. He was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed attending numerous NASCAR races yearly. Bobby was also a social member at the Cortland Moose, American Legion and local VFWs.
Carol preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 2008.
Bobby is survived by his only son, Harry W. Richardson of Niles. He enjoyed spending the last four years of his life with his companion, Alda Wick, and his beloved nieces and nephews.
A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Mark A. Thomas, will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2016 at Paine Funeral Home Inc., 140 E. Main Street, Orwell, OH 44076. The service will have full military honors. There will also be visitation 6 to 6:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A private burial of ashes will take place at a later date.
